October 15th is Global Handwashing Day

by Jenn Tucci, MPH, RD

October 15th is Global Handwashing Day.  Surprisingly, 39% of Americans do not wash their hands after sneezing, coughing or blowing their nose!  This is one of the quickest ways to spread cold and flu germs, as well as other viruses.  One of the best things you can do to protect yourself and others is to wash your hands often with soap and warm water. Be sure to scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds, which is the amount of time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song TWICE.
